Dial In and Tune to God's Frequency

I was spending time with the Lord recently and seeking His heart on all the chaos, confusion and deception swirling in the atmosphere right now. As I listened and waited He showed me a picture of an old-fashioned radio. My attention was then drawn to the dial and I remembered that it must be properly set on the correct frequency in order to receive the desired incoming broadcast. When the dial is off just a little, then the station you were hoping to listen to is blurred by the sounds of static and bits and pieces of other broadcasts from different sources.

Then, I heard the Lord say, "Dial In! You must tune to My frequency!" I felt the urgency of His instruction and with it a protective warning from His heart to us. It is evident that the enemy has launched an all out attack on the minds and belief systems of many and especially the younger generations whose thoughts and minds are being shaped right now by the barrage of information that comes our way every single day.

God's keys and ways are profoundly simple. But when we allow the mass of information and voices hurled at us each day to take priority, God's voice can easily take a back seat. Over time, by not placing value on His voice, we actually lessen our ability to hear Him and receive the counsel that we need.

How to "Dial In"

To be "dialed in" means to be highly focused, aware, and performing at a peak level of concentration and skill. The phrase originates from the act of tuning an old-fashioned radio dial to certain frequencies or settings.

We are in a strategic time to be very intentional about "dialing in" to the voice of the Holy Spirit. The key to hearing what the Spirit is broadcasting in this hour is abiding in the Spirit of God.

When you spend time with someone, after awhile you began to know their voice, the unique way that they express themselves or communicate. So it is with the Lord. As we learn to abide in His presence, we began to recognize His voice and unique way of expressing Himself to us. Our familiarity or ability to recognize His voice occurs gradually overtime as we build our individual history with hearing His voice.

In the Gospels, Jesus often said this phrase, "Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear." (Mark 4:9) Then a phrase that John used repeatedly in the book of Revelation, "Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches." (Rev. 2:11) is very similar. These repeated reminders give us an indication that our hearing is VERY important. How we hear is critical. A closer look reveals that we can hear and not understand. We can hear and not perceive what He is saying. We can hear and completely ignore His gentle whisper.

Incline Your Ears to Hear

"Consider carefully what you hear," he continued. "With the measure you use, it will be measured to you--and even more. Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them." Matthew 4:24-25

Jesus' words are somewhat mysterious in this passage, but they carry weight as He underscores once again to consider carefully what we hear. Each one of us measures the things that we hear. All day we have conversations, listen to news or other sources and all the time we are measuring. We are making determinations and placing levels of value on the words that we hear. We are moving towards belief or unbelief, faith or fear, action or passivity, and a host of other reactions. In the kingdom, the way we steward the words we receive is major. Jesus indicates that the way we hear can bring increase to our lives or we can risk losing what we have received by not considering carefully what we have heard and not measuring the word correctly.

The type of hearing He is looking for is attentive hearing that values and obeys His voice. It is an hour to be vigilant and alert. If we desire to clear up our lines of communication, we must commit to set the phones aside and stop the scrolling. Limit social media and the news. These things are not necessarily bad in themselves, but in many cases have been intentionally designed to be addictive in nature and sometimes deceptive as well. Information overload is drowning out the very voice that is our lifeline. This overload becomes like static that distorts the frequency of Heaven to our hearts and minds.

Immerse in the Real

Our offensive position is to immerse ourselves in the REAL so that the counterfeit is more easily recognized. The real, in this case, being the word of God and God Himself. As we give Him the preeminence that He deserves, our lives begin to come into alignment with Him. As we immerse ourselves in Him and His word, we grow in our ability to recognize truth from false. The fruit of the Spirit grows and develops bringing greater peace and stability to all areas of our life. Though you may experience opposition from your own flesh, or from others around you, press through the resistance. The stakes are high, but your obedience will be rewarded and your resulting peace will be great.

I also hear the Lord saying, "Lock eyes with Me! Ignore the distractions that swirl around you and find strength in My gaze. Allow My peace to settle over your heart and mind and you will find rest."

Follow Your Umpire

Colossians 3:15 says, "Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful."

The Greek word for rule in the above verse is brabeuo and means to umpire or arbitrate and govern. An umpire makes decisive calls in sporting events and brings order where there may be questions or different opinions. The peace of Christ acts like our personal umpire as we learn to listen and tune our hearts to His governing. Moving in life and decisions without His peace as our umpire allows confusion and sometimes even chaos to come through our mind gates.

As I meditated on our lives with the peace of Christ as our umpire, I saw a picture of someone walking through a field where there were potential landmines. In their hand they held an instrument that could guide them when to avoid stepping where the explosives were planted so that they could then choose to walk a different way. This is just an illustration, but a great picture of how the Holy Spirit working through the peace of Christ works in our life to aid us in avoiding the pitfalls and even wrong decisions that can derail us. Like the handheld instrument, the Holy Spirit guides and gives us His peace, directing our steps so that we know the way to go and the things to avoid on our journey. But, we won't recognize His peace if we have not "dialed in" and been intentional to honor His voice and tune our hearts to intentionally hear.

A number of years ago I adopted Isaiah 50:4-5 as a life passage. Read these words and let them stir your heart and challenge you. Read them as a prayer and allow His Spirit to awaken and kindle a fire within you for Him and His word. Receive His anointing on your ears and know that you were created to hear His voice, tune to His frequency, and respond wholeheartedly.

"The Sovereign LORD has given me a well-instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary. He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being instructed. The Sovereign LORD has opened my ears; I have not been rebellious, I have not turned away." (Isa. 50:4-5)
